Bio

Catherine Lemaire Lozier is a studio potter in Nashville, TN. Drawing inspiration from historical decorative arts, Catherine embellishes her pieces with hand carved, inlaid illustrations. She combines botanical motifs with imagery sourced from folktales, fairy tales, and mythology.

The inlay process leaves a soft, furrowed texture on the surface of each piece, producing one-of-a-kind pots that are designed to be both beautiful and practical.

A Nashville native, Catherine has a BA in anthropology, women's studies, and ceramics from Guilford College in North Carolina. She attended the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee, earning her BFA. She works out of her home studio in East Nashville.

Statement

My work is grounded in the practices of studio pottery, and I make utilitarian pieces. My current work is an homage to the historical blue and white ceramics that I’ve loved my whole life. I tend towards traditional floral motifs, but also inlay illustrations that come from my interest in mythology, folk tales, and sacred narratives. I aim to make beautiful pots that add warmth and interest to folks’ homes. I continually challenge myself to improve on my work, making it prettier and more useful.
